Shutdown, Turnaround, Outage

Shutdown, Turnaround and Outage (STO) are all standard industry terms. An STO can vary in duration from short (one hour or less due to an unexpected event on a fixed plant item) to many days or months. Therefore, an STO can be categorised into anticipated or opportunistic.

Anticipated: These are planned and scheduled many months or years in advance.

Opportunistic: These are unexpected and therefore require agility to plan and schedule any work to be done.

Opportunistic STOs could be managed by existing event functionality except for the requirement that there may be multiple equipment involved and this isn’t possible with existing event functionality.

When you add a strategy task you can add an STO task option if the task is typically performed during an STO. Selecting Requires STO automatically assigns the STO task to the closest STOs due date. If the due date is midway between two STOs, the system defaults to the earlier period. You can manually overwrite this at any point of the STO planning process.

You can see the STOs on the Gantt Chart in Long-term Planning - Advanced.
