Lock
Locking an activity area prevents accidental changes once its design and properties are finalised. A locked area cannot be edited, resized, or reassigned, but it can still be cloned to create dependent activity areas. Locking is useful when you want to preserve the integrity of a plan while continuing to make changes elsewhere.
When to lock an activity area
You should lock an activity area:
-
After validating the geometry, mining direction, and dependencies.
-
When the schedule is ready for execution and you want to prevent unintentional edits.
-
When using On Demand calculation mode for large mined-out areas (these can be locked at any time).
How to lock or unlock an activity area
You can lock an activity area in two ways.
From the Properties panel:
-
Select the activity area in the 3D scene.
-
Open Properties > General.
-
Set Lock to Yes.
From the Activity Areas tab:
-
Select one or more activity areas in the grid.
-
Right-click and choose Locking > Lock/Unlock.
Rules and behaviour
When you lock an activity area, the following rules apply:
-
An activity area can only be locked after it is fully evaluated, except when its calculation mode is set to On Demand.
-
If an activity type is configured as Editable: No in Config, the area behaves as locked even if the Lock property is set to No.
-
When locked:
-
The shape cannot be edited.
-
Mining level and activity type cannot be changed.
-
Dependencies, destinations, and resource assignments cannot be modified.
-
External changes (e.g., block model updates, grade control imports, pit limit adjustments) don’t affect the locked area.
-
What you can still do
Even when locked, you can:
-
Clone the area to create dependent activity areas for other activities (e.g., Drill → Charge → Blast → Mine).
-
View and report on the area in the Activity Areas tab and Gantt chart.
