Access data field design to insert data fields in your database

It is possible to insert either one data field or a number of consecutive data fields at once. Starting from the data field above which you want to do the insert, highlight the number of data fields that you want to insert. You can highlight data fields clicking the data field number on the far left. There are three ways to insert the data fields.

1.Right-click the highlighted area and then select Insert Row from the pop up menu.
2.Select Edit from the application menu and then Insert Row from the drop-down menu.
3.Press Insert.

Existing data

It is important to note that, when you insert a data field in your database, the existing data remains attached to the existing data fields. The only thing that will change is the data field numbers.

Zero the new data?

When you insert a data field, XPAC will make use of previously deleted data fields. As a result, there may be old data located in a newly inserted data field. To help you reduce the effects of this, XPAC will display the following message every time you insert a new data field and then save the data field design (including on exit): "You have inserted some new rows into the database. There may already be some values in these new rows. Would you like to zero all values in these rows? This step may be unnecessary if you plan to run an XCM to initialise the rows."

If you click Yes, XPAC will assign the newly-inserted data fields a zero value for all records in the database. If you click No, some remnant old data may be present in these data fields.

If you are about to run an XCM which clears or assigns the new data fields, there may be no need to answer Yes to this question. Also, for large databases, there may be some delay while the data fields are cleared.

Add data fields to the end

To add data fields to the end.

1.Highlight the last data field in your database by itself;
2.Select the Insert before radio button; then
3.Click OK
