Each level defined in the database is allocated a unique level number that describes its depth in the hierarchy. The first level in every database is called Level 0. Each successive subdivision of the deposit is represented on a new level, with a level number one larger than the previous level.

Although the user can define up to ten levels, the level numbers must always start at one and must be contiguous. The user cannot define a level if there is an undefined level above it (with a smaller level number).
