The maximum stockpile size settings are used to control the size of each pile within the stockpile. They therefore indirectly control the size of the stockpile. The maximum stockpile size can be based on the quantity of material within the pile or the time it takes for construction of the pile. The options are explained below.

maximum pile size

Quantity

When the Units field is set to Quantity, you can set the Size to Period Target or you can enter a fixed quantity directly.

When you choose Period Target as the pile size, XPAC will create a new pile when the existing pile contains a quantity of material equal to the targets of the resources assigned to that stockpile. Providing the targets for these resources were achieved each period, a new pile will be created at the beginning of each period and at the end of the schedule there will be the same number of piles as there were periods scheduled.
If you choose to enter a fixed quantity (it must be greater than 0), XPAC will create piles of the specified size, whether this takes a portion of a period or several periods. With this setting, there is no guarantee that the end of a pile will coincide with the end of each period. In this instance the user can tick the New S/P each Period check box, which forces XPAC to begin a new pile at the start of each period, whether the previous pile has been completed or not.

Time

When you set the Units field to Time, you can set the Size to Period Duration or you can enter a fixed duration directly.

When you choose Period Duration, XPAC will create a new pile at the beginning of each period. Again, at the end of the schedule, there will be the same number of piles as there were periods scheduled.
When you enter a fixed duration, XPAC will create piles at the specified time intervals, regardless of how much material has been placed in them. The duration is specified in days, hours and minutes and it may be a portion of a period or several periods. With this setting, there is no guarantee that the end of a stockpile will coincide with the end of each period. In this instance the user can tick the New S/P each Period check box, which forces XPAC to begin a new pile at the start of each period, whether the previous stockpile has been under construction for the specified duration or not.

Quantity Script

When you set the Units field to Quantity Script, you can set the Size to an expression.

The New S/P each Period check box is not available for this option.
