Chart surface smoothing

You can apply smoothing to both 2D contour and 3D surface charts, although the control for smoothing is only on the Contour tab. Smoothing creates rounder, smoother contours. The charting utility uses the bi cubic B spline formula to determine how to smooth the chart data based on the smoothing factor you specify.

Since smoothing occurs for both rows and columns, a smoothing factor of 2 breaks a surface patch into 4 sub-patches, while a smoothing factor of 4 breaks a patch into 16 sub-patches. Higher smoothing factors may slow drawing speed significantly.
